Exiles crush Northampton
November 18, 2001

Northampton's problems look set to continue after the Saints crumbled to an embarrassing 48-12 defeat at the hands of London Irish on Sunday.

The visitors at least managed to avoid total humiliation with a late rally with saw Craig Moir and Peter Jorgensen touch down in the last 10 minutes after Northampton had trailed 48-0.

The Saints' performance will have done little to appease chairman Keith Barwell either, who this week pledged a radical shake-up at Franklin's Gardens because of the team's poor start to the season.

Northampton have slipped to 11th in the Zurich Premiership and were only spared the ignominy of slumping to bottom spot by Bath's surprise 31-17 defeat by Bristol.

London Irish produced a composed display with their pack out-muscling Northampton's.

The Exiles scored seven tries in all, with four before the break through Neal Hatley, Darren Edwards, Jason Wright and Declan Danagher, whose touchdown earned a crucial bonus point.

Captain Ryan Strudwick and Ireland international Kieron Dawson continued the rout in the second half and with fly-half Barry Everitt kicking one penalty and converting five of the seven tries Irish led 48-0 with 61 minutes gone.

Fortunately for Northampton winger Moir finally got his hands on the ball to touch down and score nine minutes later.

Tucker missed a conversion but made amends minutes later, converting Jorgensen's 71st-minute try.
