Cup tie off as Bath overflows
January 26, 2002

The Heineken Cup quarter-final between Bath and Llanelli has been put back 24 hours after the pitch was deemed impossible to play on.

Match referee Alan Lewis inspected the Recreation Ground pitch three times befvore calling off this afternoon's action an hour and 50 minutes before the scheduled kick-off.

Neither club had any complaints about the decision, but several supporters' coaches had arrived from west Wales and the fans were naturally cheesed off.

The game has been rescheduled for 3pm Sunday, but whether it takes place at the Recreation Ground or not depends on a another inspection at 9am.

If Lewis still thibnks the pitch is unfit to play on, then Bath will be left to find an alternative venue. Possible locations are Bristol and Reading.
