Wasps look to Kassam Stadium
May 6, 2002

Zurich Premiership side Wasps are holding talks with Oxford United concerning a possible ground-sharing deal at the Kassam Stadium.

The London club have been forced out of their current tenancy with Queens Park Rangers because Fulham FC are moving into Loftus Road for the next two years.

Wasps have been searching for a new home all season and although they have a general agreement with Wycombe Wanderers over a possible move to Adams Park, nothing formal is in place.

And club director Charles Levison has revealed Oxford has now emerged as a potential new home for Wasps.

He told the Oxford Mail: "I can confirm that we have been in discussions with Oxford. We are pursuing a ground and Oxford is one we are looking at."

Wasps announced in March that, despite their initial agreements with Wycombe, the club were keeping their options open and a possible move to the Harlequins' Stoop Memorial Ground has also been mooted.

But Oxford United chairman Firoz Kassam is anxious to bring top flight rugby to the city.

The U's new stadium hosted the Parker Pen European Shield semi-final between London Irish and Pontypridd a fortnight ago and is the venue for the competition's final later in the month.
