Wallabies' World Cup build-up
September 6, 2002

The Wallabies will warm up for their World Cup defence in 2003 with seven Tests, three of them in Australia against Ireland, Wales and England.

The Australian Rugby Union confirmed on Friday afternoon that the Wallabies will play their first international match of 2003 against the Irish in Brisbane on June 7, two weeks after the Super 12 final.

That match will be followed by Tests against Wales and England in Sydney and Melbourne respectibvely on the following two Saturdays, before the Tri-Nations competition against South Africa and holders New Zealand.

A spokesman for the ARU says no dates have been officially confirmed for the Tri-Nations, but South African officials have revealed the Springboks will host Australia on July 12 in Cape Town, followed by a clash against the All Blacks a week later in Pretoria.

The program provides the Wallabies the ideal preparation, as France will be the only World Cup contender they do not play ahead of the tournament.
