Richards annoyed by England disruption
September 12, 2002

Leicester boss Dean Richards has expressed his anger at the disruption to his side's preparations caused by this week's England training camp.

Richards was irritated by the change in date for the England get totgether that deprived him of 10 of his players for two days in the build up to a crucial Zurich Premiership clash with the Sharks on Friday night.

"The annoying thing is the dates for this England training session changed at the drop of a hat," Richards told the Daily Telegraph. "I wasn't consulted about this and only found out last Friday.

"It was too late to change our own training plans so the players have had a day off as normal today which means that our first get-together of the week will not be until Thursday.

"I can't get my head round such changes. I'm delighted that an agreement is in place with England and we're more than happy to release players. However England Rugby ought to have administered this much better."

A deal between the clubs and the RFU over release dates for players in the build-up to next year's World Cup was only signed on Friday. In the original draft schedule the first England session was pencilled in for last week. Instead a 50 man squad met up at Bagshot at the beginning of this week.
