England wing Matt Banahan has been cited by the Australian Rugby Union for an alleged dangerous tackle following England's 15-9 victory over the Australian Barbarians.

Banahan has been charged with the offence of a "lifting tackle" on Barbarians centre Berrick Barnes 26 minutes into the game at the Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford. He will now face a disciplinary hearing in Sydney overnight.

The latest offence means that England have now had a player cited after all three of their matches on the tour of Australia.

Lock Dave Attwood had two stamping charges dismissed after last Tuesday's 28-28 draw with the Barbarians due to a 'procedural' loophole in which the Australian citing commissioner could not be considered independent. England successfully argued the citing commissioner should not have been Australian.

And wing Mark Cueto was found not guilty of a dangerous tackle on Barnes in Saturday's Test defeat to the Wallabies on Saturday.

Although Banahan is unlikely to be selected for the second Test, a guilty verdict could also officially rule him out of England's final tour match against the New Zealand Maori next week.
