Sam Tomkins looks on from the stand during the Four Nations match between England and France
Notes

Sam Tomkins' consistently influential performances during Super League XIV earned him a place in the end of season Dream Team, neatly rounding off a year that included a first England cap in October 2009.

The half-back's debut appearance for Wigan Warriors came during 2008, with a five-try haul in the Challenge Cup. Following that blistering start, Tomkins' career gained momentum - after being named 2008's Reserve Player of the Year, it became clear that the second string was an inadequate platform for his talents.

The next year Tomkins established himself as an integral member of the Wigan first-team squad, scoring 15 tries during Super League XIV.

Career high: Scoring three tries on England debut against Wales

Career low: Not starting all the Four Nations fixtures in 2009

Quote: When asked if he expected to picked in the England squad, Tomkins said: "If someone had said at the start of the season I'd be in the England squad and going over to France I wouldn't have believed them. It's all happened so fast."

Trivia: Brother Joel also plays for Wigan
