Tottenham Hotspur have completed a surprise deadline-day swoop for Everton striker Louis Saha.

The French striker had six months left on his Goodison Park contract but has been allowed to join Spurs on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Saha, 33, has scored just twice in 20 games in the current campaign but has proven Premier League pedigree for the Toffees, as well as former clubs Manchester United, Fulham and Newcastle.

He leaves for White Hart Lane having scored 35 in 115 appearances for Everton and will provide competition for Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp had confirmed he expected the deal to go through, telling Sky Sports News after his team's 3-1 defeat of Wigan: "I like Saha. He's got good movement, can score goals but probably needs a change. He's out of contract at the end of the year so David Moyes has let him go.

"I can remember speaking to Rio Ferdinand and he said he was the best forward he'd played against.''
