Gunners stun Spurs as Giggs grabs win for United

Arsenal produced a remarkable comeback to stun Tottenham 5-2 in the North London derby, while Manchester United reduced the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City after a late winner against Norwich at Carrow Road.

Arsenal moved back up to fourth after they came from two goals down to claim a dramatic 5-2 win against Tottenham, who ended the game with 10 men after Scott Parker was sent off. The Gunners, having seen their chances of silverware fade with defeats to AC Milan (Champions League ) and Sunderland (FA Cup) last week, looked to be heading for a third straight defeat when they went behind to two early goals.

Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor briefly looked to have stolen the headlines on his return to Emirates Stadium, scoring from the penalty spot after setting up Louis Saha's opener, but the home side produced a stunning fightback to claim three much-needed points and local bragging rights.

Two goals in two minutes from Bacary Sagna and top scorer Robin van Persie got Arsenal back on level terms before Tomas Rosicky and a Theo Walcott brace secured a memorable derby win.

Returning to the club he left in acrimonious circumstances in 2009, Adebayor passed a late fitness test to return to the Spurs starting XI, and he made an an instant impact, threading the ball to Saha, whose effort was deflected off Laurent Koscielny and looped up over a helpless Wojciech Szczesny.

Arsenal had chances to level through van Persie and Rosicky, but Spurs soon doubled their advantage from the penalty spot. Referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot after Gareth Bale was brought down by Kieran Gibbs, but opted not to show the defender a card. Adebayor stepped up and coolly slotted the ball low to a diving Szczesny's left, and Spurs looked to be on track to claim another derby win against their fierce rivals.

But Sagna pulled one back for the home side just three minutes later, losing his marker to meet Mikel Arteta's cross, sending a fierce header past an outstretched Brad Friedel. And Arsenal were soon back on level terms, Van Persie netting the equaliser, firing in from the edge of the area after Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto were guilty of failing to clear their lines. The Gunners headed into the break in the ascendancy, and they came out all guns blazing; Friedel tipping Yossi Benayoun's low strike past the post.

It took just six minutes for Arsenal to find the net after the restart, Rosicky stabbing home from Sagna's cross to put the hosts on course for victory, before two goals in three minutes from Walcott sealed the rout.

Tottenham's woes were compounded when Parker - booked in the first half for dissent - was shown a second yellow for a reckless challenge on Thomas Vermaelen.

Arsenal leapfrog Chelsea to occupy the final Champions League spot, while third-placed Tottenham lost ground on Manchester United, who left it late to claim a 2-1 win over Norwich at Carrow Road.

The day belonged to Ryan Giggs, who marked his 900th United appearance with a late winner as United closed the gap at the top of the Premier League.

Fellow veteran Paul Scholes gave United an early lead, but Norwich claimed a late equaliser courtesy of Grant Holt before Giggs grabbed a dramatic winner in the 92nd minute.

United got off to a flying start, and when Nani's probing cross from the right evaded Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, Scholes arrived unmarked on the far post to nod the ball into an open goal with just seven minutes on the clock.

Holt looked to have secured a hard-earned point after his well-finished strike seven minutes from time - collecting Zak Whitbread's header before swivelling and drilling a powerful strike past David De Gea, but it proved in vain as Giggs stole the headlines with his last-gasp winner, slotting through John Ruddy's legs after meeting Ashley Young's cross.

Stoke City leapfrogged opponents Swansea after a 2-0 win at the Britannia Stadium. First-half goals from Matthew Upson and Peter Crouch saw the Potters put their Europa League exit firmly behind them with their first league win in six matches.
