Carlos Tevez moved closer to a first-team return for Manchester City with a goal for their second string against Bolton.

Tevez returned to England last month, having been in his native Argentina following a major bust-up with manager Roberto Mancini and club officials over his failure to warm up against Bayern Munich last year.

After failing to secure a transfer in January, Tevez returned and has been brought back into the fold after issuing an apology.

Tevez played 45 minutes for the reserves against Preston last week and stepped up his drive towards fitness with an outing for the second string against Bolton.

He was handed a start and looked threatening throughout. The goal is not likely to live long in the memory, a scrappy finish from close range, but it showed the scoring instincts remain sharp.

Tevez did not finish the game, which City won 3-1, being replaced by Mancini's son Filippo.
