Tottenham's FA Cup clash against Bolton was abandoned

Tottenham's FA Cup quarter-final against Bolton was abandoned shortly before half time after Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch.

With the scores level at 1-1, the Bolton midfielder collapsed near the halfway line, away from the ball. Six paramedics raced across the pitch and appeared to try to resuscitate the former England Under-21 international.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle also joined the paramedics as they tended to Muamba and players from both sides looked visibly upset as the midfielder received treatment. Muamba, 23, was carried off on a stretcher amid applause from both sets of fans.

Referee Howard Webb took the players off and shortly afterwards it was confirmed the game would not continue.

Muamba was wearing an oxygen mask and was flanked by a number of paramedics and Bolton medical staff as he left the pitch. He was taken to hospital.

A statement on the Bolton website read: "Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has been taken to hospital following his collapse at White Hart Lane during the FA Cup quarter-final."
