Rafael Nadal has begun his preparations for the clay season after recovering from a knee injury.

The world No. 2 was forced to pull out of his semi-final against Andy Murray at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month, but denied the tendonitis that disrupted his 2009 season had returned.

Nadal confirmed that he returned to training at his home in Mallorca on Wednesday and is confident he will be fit in time to defend his title at next week's Monte Carlo Masters, where he will be looking to win the trophy for an eighth successive year.

The Spaniard also intends to play in Barcelona the following week, where he is the defending champion at the ATP 500 event.

"[On Wednesday], I started to train on clay at the Manacor tennis club, to prepare myself for the Monte Carlo and Barcelona tournaments," Nadal posted on his Facebook page.
