Ledley King looks set to end his playing career if Tottenham do not offer to extend his current contract, which expires at the end of June.

King, who has spent his entire career at White Hart Lane, has seen recent seasons ravaged by a chronic knee problem that has restricted the number of games he has been able to play, while he needed further surgery at the end of the most recent campaign to address another issue.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month - and has so far not been offered new terms - but will not look to continue his playing career elsewhere if Spurs decline to offer him a new deal, instead opting to stay on at the north London club in another role.

"I had a really good start to last season and was pleased to play as many games as I did," King said. "A knock in training set me back towards the end, but I opted to carry on playing rather than take the time out to have the knee seen to. Unfortunately that meant that I didn't play the last few games at the standard I would have liked.

"I've been discussing things with the club and my contract expires this summer. The club has been fantastic in supporting me and given me several options to stay involved with Tottenham. I shall take a view with them [in] pre-season on my future.

"Tottenham has been the only club for me and if I can't play here then I shall look to be involved in another capacity."

King managed 23 appearances for Spurs last season. The club have been linked with Ajax central defender Jan Vertonghen as manager Harry Redknapp looks to reinforce his defensive options.
