Manchester United are close to the signing of highly-rated Chilean forward Angelo Henriquez, according to widespread reports.

Henriquez, 18, enjoys a burgeoning reputation in his native country - after scoring eight goals in 10 senior appearances for his club side Universidad de Chile - and United have been tracking his progress for over a year.

The Premier League runners-up are believed to have agreed a £3 million deal for the powerful forward's services, although they will need him to be successful in his bid for a 'special talent' work visa if he is to join up with his team-mates at Old Trafford ahead of next season.

If his application is unsuccessful, however, Henriquez will most likely be loaned out to a European club with close links to United until such a time as he qualifies for a UK work permit.

Henriquez only focused on football in 2007, after initially hoping to become a professional tennis player. He has gone on to represent Chile's Under-15 and Under-17 national sides, marking him out as one to watch with a number of impressive displays.
