Dodig stuns Tsonga as seeds tumble at Queen's

The AEGON Championships draw was blown wide open after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was dumped out at the third round stage by Ivan Dodig.

The Frenchman follows top seed and defending champion Andy Murray, as well as former champions Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt in crashing out early in the week.

Tsonga looked to be firmly on course for victory after bouncing back from losing the opening set, but was edged out in a deciding tiebreak as Dodig claimed a shock 7-6(3) 3-6 7-6(5) victory.

Tsonga, who was beaten by Andy Murray in last year's final, was the highest-ranked player left in the draw following Murray's defeat to Nicolas Mahut on Wednesday.

The world No. 5 took his time to settle and struggled to find a way past the Croatian, the world No. 69 grabbing the opening set on a tiebreak. Tsonga looked to be easing through the gears as he broke Dodig twice to level proceedings, but he appeared to struggle with a finger injury after slipping and landing awkwardly on his hand.

Dodig kept pace with the second seed, and took his chances in the tiebreak to seal his place in the quarter-finals. Next up for Dodig is 2010 champion Sam Querrey, who ousted eighth seed Julien Benneteau 6-3 3-6 6-3.

Former Wimbledon boys' champion Grigor Dimitrov booked his place in the quarter-finals, defeating Murray's conqueror Nicolas Mahut 7-6(4) 6-3.

Mahut grabbed an early lead and served for the set, but Dimitrov saved a set point before breaking to force a tiebreak. Mahut held his nerve to win a third-set tiebreak against Murray on Wednesday, but he was unable to repeat his antics as the Bulgarian took the opener.

Dimitrov appeared to grow in confidence, and after claiming an early break, never looked in danger of being broken as booked a quarter-final clash with Kevin Anderson, who narrowly overcame fifth seed Feliciano Lopez 7-6(10) 7-6(7).

Xavier Malisse edged a hard-fought first set before moving through the gears to down Italy's Simone Bolelli 7-6(5) 6-3.

Janko Tipsarevic was trailing Lu Yen-Hsun by a set when rain halted play for the day. Should the No. 3 seed fail to fight back it will mean all top five seeds have failed to reach the quarter-finals. The winner will face Croatia's Marin Cilic, who beat Lukas Rosol 7-6(3) 6-2. David Nalbandian and Edouard Roger-Vasselin were unable to play due to the poor weather, with organisers confirming the action will resume on Friday at 11.00am.
