Walden too good for Bingham despite 147

England's Ricky Walden defeated compatriot Stuart Bingham to claim the Wuxi Classic on Sunday.

Walden, the Essex native, roared out into a 9-1 lead in the final of the event in China, before eventually sealing a 10-4 success as Bingham began to suggest a comeback could be on the cards.

Walden, who took home £75,000 as a result of the win, closed out the match with a break of 74 - after Bingham had struck a maximum 147 to get on the board earlier in the contest.

Bingham had been cueing nicely in his previous rounds - claiming victories over Peter Ebdon, Ken Doherty and Mark Selby - but started slowly against Walden, as his opponent claimed the first five frames in the row. The maximum break then followed to make the scoreline 5-1 but Walden was not fazed, picking up the next two frames to end the session just three away from victory.

Once the players returned Walden grabbed the next two frames to put himself on the verge of victory, before Bingham delivered two century breaks (of 103 and 100) in three frames to gain a foothold in the contest.

Walden, however, would not be denied - sealing his second ranking event after claiming the Shanghai Masters four years ago.
