QPR unveiled the signing of Park Ji-sung from Manchester United at a press conference on Monday.

The South Korean midfielder has agreed a two-year deal to move to Loftus Road, leaving Old Trafford for a transfer fee that has been quoted as between £2-5 million.

The 31-year-old spent seven years at United, during which time he won a Champions League title, four Premier League titles and three League Cups.

"It was a difficult decision [to leave Manchester United] but I had to do it," Park said, revealing he had not spoken to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson about his exit.

"QPR showed me their ambition, and that is why I think it was time to have a new challenge.

"There were some other offers but nothing compared to QPR, money's not important, it's [about] the future and how we reach the optimum. QPR are a team of the future and that's why I signed.

"When QPR showed me the way they want to be this is why I had to have a new challenge, I think it's a great decision for me and I am looking forward to it."

QPR, in calling Monday's press conference, had promised an announcement that would "put the QPR brand on a global scale", with many members of the Asian press in attendance.

However, manager Mark Hughes insisted Park was signed for footballing reasons rather than economic or marketing considerations.

"He is someone I've admired from afar for many, many years," Hughes said. "He's a player with great energy, great technical ability and he will bring a lot to the team.

"He's a very motivated guy. It's a very exciting time for QPR and he will be a big part of that."

Park is QPR's sixth signing of the summer already - but Hughes confirmed that he hopes to make at least one more addition before the new Premier League season gets underway.

Robert Green, Andy Johnson, Ryan Nelsen and Samba Diakite have already signed permanent deals with the club - with Park's former Manchester United team-mate Fabio da Silva also joining on loan.
