Arsenal defender Kyle Bartley has joined Swansea City on a three-year contract after passing a medical with the Welsh club.

Bartley, 21, spent last season on loan at Rangers, making just 19 appearances after struggling with a hernia injury.

The centre-back signed a new contract with the Gunners last summer and had taken part in pre-season training with the team ahead of the 2012-13 campaign.

But he will now ply his trade at the Liberty Stadium after Swansea confirmed the agreement on their Twitter account on Thursday evening.

Bartley posted on his Twitter account: "Swansea deal complete. Very happy. Was an extremely tough decision for me to leave Arsenal, but felt time was right.

"Swansea offered me an opportunity. And I'm extremely excited to start my career here, will always be thankful to Arsenal for my education."

He added: "Was the toughest decision of my life. But it is a permanent deal. And now I'm raring to go with Swansea."
