French winger Florent Malouda could have his Chelsea nightmare ended by former club Lyon, who are willing to take him back.

Malouda, 32, is currently training with the Blues' under-21 squad, after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

The former Lyon man, who moved to Chelsea in 2007, has been left out of the club's Champions League squad by manager Roberto Di Matteo, and was told he could leave the west Londoners, but failed to agree a transfer prior to the close of the window.

Despite being out of favour at Chelsea, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas could be willing to give the France international a lifeline at the Stade Gerlard come January.

"Our door is always open to former players," Aulas admitted. "Malouda has been in contact with our coaching team very recently.

"We've also spoken with Jeremy Toulalan who has been having problems at Malaga."
