Rory McIlroy claimed the third win in his last four tournaments and cemented his position at the top of the FedExCup rankings with victory at the BMW Championship.

McIlroy ended two shots clear of playing partner Lee Westwood on 20-under for the tournament on a final day in which five different players had at least a share of the lead, with overnight leader Phil Mickelson finishing tied with Westwood on 18-under after falling victim to a late birdie streak from the Northern Irishman.

Victory in the PGA Championship, Deutsche Bank Championship and BMW Championship caps a run of three wins in four tournaments for McIlroy - who has shot a cumulative 54-under in that time - to strengthen his position at the top the world rankings.

Tiger Woods paid the price for his 71 on Saturday, his 68 on Sunday only good enough for a share of fourth with fellow American Robert Garrigus on 17-under-par.

Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott finished in a tie for sixth after carding 70s on Sunday, while Vijay Singh slumped to a 73 to finish alone in eighth.

Jim Furyk, no doubt buoyed by his inclusion in Davis Love III's US Davis Cup team, produced a bogey-free 68 on Sunday to finish ninth, the best of the early finishers.

Bubba Watson produced fine 65 on the final day to move up to a share of 12th on 12-under alongside Ian Poulter, who was more steady than spectacular at Crooked Stick.

His Ryder Cup team-mate Luke Donald was also among the also-rans, carding a third steady round after a fine opener to finish with a one-under 71 to tie for 28th on seven-under-par alongside Open champion Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel and Graeme McDowell.

Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose fared slightly better, finishing on nine and 10 under respectively.
