Brandt Snedeker justified Davis Love III's decision to hand him a Ryder Cup wildcard by winning the $11.4 million FedEx Cup jackpot.

Snedeker triumphed in the final FedEx play-off event, the Tour Championship at East Lake, by three strokes from England's Justin Rose, who finished seven-under.

It was Snedeker's second win of the PGA Tour season, and his fourth overall - and it hands him a significant confidence boost ahead of the Ryder Cup at Medinah next week.

He carded a 68 on the final day, with a double-bogey at the sixth the only significant stain on an otherwise nerveless round. Ryan Moore put him under some pressure on the back nine, sharing the lead at one point, but he could not sustain his push.

Former world No. 1 Luke Donald (67) finished alongside Moore in a share of third at six-under.

Rory McIlroy was the runaway leader of the FedEx standings before the points reset ahead of the Tour Championship, yet his charge was derailed on the final day as he signed for a 74.

US PGA champion McIlroy, who had won three of four events heading into East Lake, completed at one-under, one shot behind Tiger Woods. It was McIlroy who took second place in the final FedEx charts, with Woods third.

Alarmingly for European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal, Lee Westwood propped up the 30-man field at 15-over.

American Ryder Cup players Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson tied for fifth at five-under.
