United working on Ferguson's replacement

Manchester United have already laid the foundations for the recruitment process to replace manager Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot finally decides to retire.

The likes of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all been linked with the Old Trafford hotseat and the unenviable role of filling Ferguson's boots when he decides to call it a day.

While United are hopeful Ferguson, who will celebrate 26 years at the helm next month, has another few seasons left in him, vice-chairman Ed Woodward admits the club have already made plans for when the Scot does walk away.

"We have a view as to what type of manager we want and how and when we'll go about it," Woodward said. "But it's in the drawer and long may it stay in the drawer."

Woodward also confirmed that the controversial Glazer family had no intention of selling the club, insisting they have 'undiminished' enthusiasm for the Red Devils.

"There is always interest in this business," he said. "It is a phenomenal brand and club, but they are not willing sellers at all, they won't even engage, they are long-term investors.

"It's a very popular business that people have interest in. The answer is: 'not for sale'. I talk to them every day and the excitement they have in this club is undiminished and I don't see them selling completely for many, many years."
