McIlroy topples Woods in China showdown

Rory McIlroy gained revenge for his thrashing at the hands of Tiger Woods earlier this month by winning the Duel at Jinsha Lake on Monday.
Woods beat McIlroy by six strokes at the World Golf Final three weeks ago, but the tables were turned as the Northern Irishman triumphed by one shot in China in the battle between the world's top two players.
It was only the third time in 11 head-to-head clashes that McIlroy had managed to outperform Woods.
McIlroy, who reportedly pocketed a $2 million cheque for playing the event, posted a five-under 67, while Woods could only manage a 68.
Two early birdies helped McIlroy to reach the turn two-up, only for Woods to put the pressure on by chipping in at the 12th. However, he then coughed up a shot at the 14th, and that effectively put paid to his challenge.
McIlroy's next action will be at the Singapore Open early next month, while Woods rounds off his 2012 schedule at the World Challenge in California later in November.
Both were in action over the weekend: McIlroy finishing second behind Peter Hanson at the BMW Masters; Woods fourth behind Nick Watney at the CIMB Classic.
