City confirm Richards injury blow

Manchester City have confirmed that Micah Richards will be out for up to four months after undergoing knee surgery.

Richards was stretchered off during City's 1-0 win over Swansea on Saturday, with fears he may be out until the New Year.

But after going under the knife, Richards has now been told that he could be out of action for up to 16 weeks.

"The positive thing is that the injury has been repaired so the knee will be as good as new," Richards told City's official website.

"I have a brace on it and I am using crutches. I can't do anything at all for the next four to six weeks and I am probably looking at 12-16 weeks before I am back in action."

Richards fell to the floor in the 78th minute of City's 1-0 win at Etihad Stadium, and received lengthy treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.

"I knew straight away in the game that it was quite a bad injury," Richards said. "The knee locked and I couldn't straighten it. I suppose it could have been even worse and not repairable which would have meant removing the meniscus; so I am being positive.

The England international has made just four appearances for City since recovering from an ankle injury that he picked up representing Team GB at London 2012.

"Injuries are all part and parcel of the job but this coming on top of the other one I do feel a little hard done to," he added. "I will be working as hard as I can to get back as quickly as I can and I thank all the fans who have sent their best wishes."
