UEFA postpones decision on U21 brawl

A disciplinary hearing into the on-pitch violence and alleged racist chanting that marred the Under-21 match between Serbia and England has been postponed until next month, UEFA has confirmed.

European football's governing body said the decision had been taken in order to allow it to carry out further investigations.

The Serbian FA has been charged over racist chanting from the stands - a charge it has denied - while both it and the English FA face charges over the behaviour of players at the Under-21 European Championship play-off last month.

"The control and disciplinary body decided to postpone the U21 Serbia-England disciplinary case until its next meeting, scheduled for Thursday 13 December 2012, to allow for further investigations," UEFA said in a statement.

On-pitch violence flared at the final whistle in Krusevac and England defender Danny Rose, who was sent off after the game for kicking the ball into the crowd, said he had been racially abused from the stands throughout the game.

Announcing the charges against the associations of both countries last month, UEFA said: "UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against both the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) and England's Football Association (FA) following a number of incidents during and after England's 1-0 win over Serbia in the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-off second leg at the Mladost stadium in Krusevac on Tuesday 16 October 2012.

"Regarding alleged racist chanting, UEFA will instigate proceedings against the FSS over the misconduct of their supporters during and at the end of the match."

The Professional Footballers' Association chairman, Clarke Carlisle, has called for Serbia to be banned from international competition if the charge of racist chanting is upheld.
