Kaymer clinches Nedbank prize

Martin Kaymer finished his season on a high with a two-shot victory at the lucrative Nedbank Golf Challenge on Sunday.

Kaymer, the hero for Europe at the recent Ryder Cup, started the day with a one-shot lead but looked on course for victory as early as the second hole, as an eagle at the par-five thrust him out in front.

But a double-bogey at the very next hole hauled him back towards the rest of the field - before three successive birdies around the turn at nine, 10 and 11 gave him some breathing room.

Following a birdie at 14, a bogey at 15 kept alive Charl Schwartzel's hopes of running the German down, but Kaymer kept his cool to par the final three holes, with his eight-under total enough for victory.

It was Kaymer's first victory of 2012, having suffered severe scrutiny about his alarming loss of form prior to his dramatic intervention on behalf of the European team at Medinah.

"It was always tight. Charl played a great round of golf," Kaymer said afterwards. "I was telling [my caddie] I need a win. I need a win in 2012."

Schwartzel eventually finished second at six-under, having matched Kaymer's final round 69, with Bill Haas third at three-under.

Louis Oosthuizen finished fourth at two-under despite a two-over par closing round of 74, with Lee Westwood completing the top five.
