Gavin Rees will make his debut on American soil in February having lined up Adrien Broner for a WBC lightweight title fight in New Jersey.

The Welshman has not fought since July, when he beat Derry Matthews, because a proposed December clash with John Murray fell through.

But the bout in Atlantic City, subject to contracts being exchanged, will give the 32-year-old Rees the perfect opportunity to show he has spent his time wisely.

Should he win, he will hand Broner a first career defeat and significantly blot his ledger which reads 25-0, with 21 of those victories coming by knockout.

Rees' promoter Eddie Hearn posted news that terms had been agreed for the fight on Twitter. "Hounded by questions about Rees v Broner.. We have agreed terms with Golden Boy for Feb 16," Hearn wrote.

Rees has won 37 of his 39 fights, drawing a 2011 fight against Matthews and losing to Andriy Kotelnyk in 2008.
