Armstrong to give interview to Oprah

Lance Armstrong will address the media for the first time since the doping scandal that has left his career in tatters, following confirmation he will give an interview to US chatshow host Oprah Winfrey.

The seven-time Tour de France winner was stripped of his titles following a report from the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) that cited Armstrong's involvement in the "most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen".

He lost sponsors and stepped down from his Livestrong charity as the fallout continued, while the New York Times claimed on Saturday that Armstrong - a survivor of brain, lung and testicular cancer, was set to come clean and admit to doping.

That has since been denied by his lawyer, but he will be in the spotlight next week when he gives an interview to Winfrey.

"Armstrong will address the alleged doping scandal, years of accusations of cheating and charges of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his storied cycling career," Winfrey's network said in a statement of the interview that is due to take place at his Austin home and be aired on January 17.
