QPR sweating over Remy injury

Queens Park Rangers' hopes of Premier League survival appear to have been dealt a hammer blow by the news that transfer window signing Loic Remy may be sidelined for up to two months.

After QPR boss Harry Redknapp confirmed Remy pulled a muscle in the final moments of his side's training session on Friday, reports in several British newspapers suggest the injury suffered by the Frenchman will keep him on the treatment table for several weeks.

Remy scored on his QPR debut in the 1-1 draw against West Ham last month and was seen by Redknapp as the goalscorer who could propel the Loftus Road club up the Premier League standings.

But this latest setback ensures the gloom that has hovered over the west London club throughout this campaign is refusing to lift.

After failing to land transfer targets Peter Crouch and Peter Odemwingie on deadline day last week and allowing Djibril Cisse to leave on loan, Remy's injury leaves Bobby Zamora and Jamie Mackie as Redknapp's only fit first-team strikers ahead of upcoming games against Swansea and Manchester United.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail is reporting that QPR are locked in a £4.5m compensation battle with former manager Mark Hughes, who is taking the club to a Premier League arbitration tribunal in a bid to resolve the issue.

Hughes, who had 19 months left on a £3m-a-year contract, is claiming payment for what was left of his Loftus Road deal, with the looming tribunal another unwanted distraction on the club's already troubled horizon.
