Gold in no rush over Allardyce deal

West Ham United will wait until their Premier League status is secured before considering a new deal for manager Sam Allardyce.

Sunday's disappointing 2-1 defeat at struggling Aston Villa left them seven points above the drop zone and in the relative safety of 11th place.

But the loss at Villa Park was their sixth consecutive away defeat in all competitions while they have won only one in eight overall.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold is in no rush to offer Allardyce, who took over in the summer of 2011 and led the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt, extended terms but also insists that is something all parties are happy with. Allardyce has struggled to win over the West Ham fans due to his direct style of play.

But Gold made no attempt to hide his disappointment at the side's latest defeat on Twitter on Sunday evening, tweeting: "Disappointed for the fans who traveled hundreds of miles on a miserable day to lose to a team in the bottom three. We should do better."

Gold issued a statement on the club's official website which read: "As [fellow co-chairman] David Sullivan and I have always maintained, we will sit down and discuss Sam's contract situation once our Premier League status has been confirmed and not before.

"This is purely because the three of us don't want anything to distract attention from our aim of finishing as high up the Premier League table as possible.

"Sam did a fantastic job of gaining promotion from the Championship at the first attempt last season and we are all pleased with how quickly he has got the team to adapt to life back in the Premier League.

"We went into Sunday's game with Aston Villa one place off the top 10 and that is no mean feat for a newly-promoted side.''
