Tevez given community service for motoring offences

Carlos Tevez has been sentenced to 250 hours of community service, fined £1,000 and handed a fresh six-month driving ban after pleading guilty to motoring offences.

Tevez was charged with driving while disqualified and without insurance and appeared at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning. He had been arrested on March 7 when behind the wheel of a white Porsche.

Tevez was originally given a six-month driving ban in January when he pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to provide information about incidents when his Hummer car was clocked speeding.

His solicitor then said that the Argentina international did not respond to police letters because he did not understand the word "constabulary".

Tevez, 29, was represented in the current case by Gwyn Lewis, a solicitor who has been nicknamed 'Merlin the Magician' because, according to his law firm Burton Copeland, of his ability "to make worrying cases disappear".

Tevez is City's 16-goal top scorer this season, has seven goals in his last six games and is preparing to face his former club Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday.
