British No. 1 Laura Robson is into the third round of the Madrid Open after the 19-year-old defeated fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3 6-1.

Last Monday, the Briton suffered her sixth first-round loss of the year when she was dumped out of the Portugal Open. However, Robson has recovered with two victories to her name in Madrid, first beating Magdalena Rybarikova by fighting back from a set down and now ousting world No. 4 Radwanska in straight sets.

Robson and Radwanska could not be separated as the pair held serve after seven games. But, in the eighth, Robson secured the first break of the contest which was set up thanks to two huge returns and converted after Radwanska hit the net. Robson closed out the opening set with a forehand winner down the line.

Unlike the first set where both players held serve early on, they broke one another after three games. Crucially, it was Robson who clinched the second break to lead 2-1, which soon became 4-1 with a double break.

Last year's Wimbledon finalist Radwanska was unable to claw her way back into the set as Robson - ranked 34 places below her Polish opponent - completed the fine victory to move into the third round, and seal a first victory over a player ranked inside the world's top five.
