Bayern not interested in Rooney

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has ruled out a move for wantaway Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney in the summer, insisting he doesn't "know what Rooney would bring to the Bundesliga".

Rooney has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after a frustrating season for United which saw him shifted into the midfield and omitted from Sir Alex Ferguson's starting line-up for the crucial clash with Real Madrid in March and left out of the squad altogether for Sunday's final home game against Swansea.

Although incumbent manager David Moyes praised Rooney earlier this week and suggested he will talk to the England international over his future, Ferguson revealed the 27-year-old has already issued a transfer request.

Bayern were among the possible destinations for Rooney, but Sammer claims there is no validity to speculation that the German champions are chasing the United player.

"I don't know what Rooney would bring to the Bundesliga," Sammer said. "I can't answer that.

"I an answer that we have great respect for Wayne Rooney but there has been no contact with him. There is no contact and he's not on the agenda. No, no. Absolutely not."
