Campbell-Brown tests positive for banned substance

World 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown has been suspended from competing after testing positive for a banned substance.

The 31-year-old Jamaican tested positive on May 4 for a banned diuretic - a masking agent - by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Campbell-Brown won 200m and 4x100m relay golds at the 2004 Olympics and retained her 200m title in 2008. She now faces a possible two-year suspension from athletics.

"The Jamaican Athletics Administrative Association can now confirm that a case concerning Mrs Veronica Campbell-Brown is currently ongoing," the Jamaican governing body said.

"She has been provisionally suspended from competition awaiting the outcome of a disciplinary panel that will be empanelled to hear this case."

Campbell-Brown has won 16 medals for her country in world and Olympic meets. At last year's Games in London, she took bronze in the 100m and was a member of Jamaica's silver medal-winning sprint relay team.
