Liverpool have completed the signing of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland on a long-term contract.

The Belgium international, 25, moves to Anfield after completing a medical at the club's Melwood training ground on Tuesday.

Mignolet becomes the club's fourth signing of the summer after arrivals of Kolo Toure from Manchester City, Luis Alberto from Sevilla and Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo.

Manager Brendan Rodgers welcomed the signing on the club's official website, saying: "I am delighted that we have been able to sign one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League.

"Simon will join a club that will give him an opportunity to demonstrate and improve his huge talent."

Pepe Reina has been linked to a move away from Liverpool, with Barcelona linked, but Rodgers has stated that Mignolet has been signed as competition for the Spaniard, not as a replacement.

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio paid tribute to Mignolet upon his departure telling the club's official website: "Simon is a fantastic footballer, a fantastic professional and a fantastic lad and I would like to personally thank him for his contribution to the team last season.

"He was crucial to what we achieved and he goes with the very best wishes of everyone at the club."

Mignolet has 13 caps for Belgium and made 90 appearances during his time at the Stadium of Light after arriving from his hometown club Sint-Truiden in 2010.
