Ainslie targets British win in America's Cup

Sir Ben Ainslie is determined to win the America's Cup with a British team after inspiring Oracle to a remarkable victory over Team New Zealand.

The four-time Olympic champion was drafted in to Oracle as they trailed 8-1 and ended up winning 9-8 in what is being described as one of sport's greatest comebacks.

And Ainslie is looking to guide a British team to success in the competition and deliver a maiden victory for his nation.

"It would be great to get out a British boat next time. We have the sailors; it's just about getting the money together," Ainslie told the Daily Mail.

"Hopefully the excitement of what we have done has generated interest. The feedback I've been getting is amazing. The event started in Britain and it's about time we won it."

On the incredible comeback, Ainslie revealed the challenges his side faced in one of the most thrilling turnarounds in the 162-year history of the competition.

"To be perfectly honest we had a mountain to climb," quotes the BBC. "We knew we had to sort ourselves out. We had to get the boat going faster. We did that.

"The designers did a great job and we had to start sailing better. We got the momentum going and we started believing in ourselves and when you do that you can become quite strong."

And Ainslie dedicated the victory to fellow British Olympian Andrew Simpson, nicknamed 'Bart', who died in an accident in training in May.

"I looked up to the stars after it all settled down at the end and thought of Bart. In some ways this was for him," Ainslie said. "He loved sailing and he loved the America's Cup. He would have been so excited about this series."
