Mo Farah's participation in the Commonwealth Games later this month was put into doubt after he pulled out of this weekend's Diamond League meet in Glasgow with abdominal pains.

The double Olympic and world champion, 31, was admitted to hospital in the USA last week and will take no part in the two-mile race at Hampden Park on Saturday.

Farah, who will have further tests in London this week, remains positive he will recover in time for the Commonwealth Games, also in the Scottish capital, which begin on July 23.

"Sorry to everyone in Scotland but I won't be able to make it there this week," Farah said in a statement.

"I hope to resume training in the next few days and aim to run in the London Anniversary Games on 20 July and then the Commonwealth Games the following week."

If he recovers, Farah will compete for England in both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres in Glasgow.
