Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel has ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year deal with Sale Sharks.

Rumours had been rife that Peel would return to his homeland in order to press his international claims, with Wales coach Warren Gatland keen for his players to ply their trade on home soil, but he has elected to extend his stay at Edgeley Park.

A groin injury has ruled Peel out of the opening weeks of the Six Nations, including their visit to face England at Twickenham on February 6.

Peel joined the Sharks in 2008 from his long-time club Llanelli Scarlets, making an immediate impression. His signing will be an added boost for the Guinness Premiership club given the impending departure of Richard Wigglesworth to Saracens.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sale Sharks and have been made to feel very welcome from day one," he said. "We have a good set of players at the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve success in the next two years. I still have ambitions to play for Wales too and hope to put myself into contention for a call up before the end of the Six Nations."
