London Welsh's winless season continued as they finished their European Challenge Cup campaign with a 17-12 defeat to Lyon in Oxford. First-half tries from Thibaut Regard and Lachie Munro meant the Exiles were already up against it and Damien Fitzpatrick duly touched down for Lyon on the hour mark, with Munro converting. The hosts did fight back with scores from Rob Lewis and replacement Koree Britton - Tristan Roberts converted the first - but it was a case of too little, too late for Justin Burnell's men. The 17-12 victory lifts Lyon above Bordeaux-Begles and into second place behind Pool Four winners Edinburgh. However, as they are - together with Oyonnax - not among the three highest-scoring runners-up, they fail to reach the quarter-finals. The eight successful clubs at the end of the pool stage are London Irish, Cardiff Blues, Exeter, Connacht, Newport Gwent Dragons, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Gloucester. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd
