Fiji captain Akapusi Qera has signed a two-year contract extension with Montpellier, the Top 14 club have confirmed.

Qera, who played all four of his country's Rugby World Cup matches as they made a pool stage exit, joined the French club in the summer of 2014 having left Gloucester for Toulouse midway through the previous season.

His original deal was due to run out at the end of the current campaign, but he will now stay with Montpellier until at least the summer of 2018.

"It means a lot to me but also for my family," Qera said. "With the new staff and the changes I see where the club wants to go and I want to be part of this project."

He added: "Over my [other] options, Montpellier was my first choice. I know we work hard here, the club has ambitions and I believe in this project."
