Connacht began their European Challenge Cup campaign with a valuable 30-12 away victory against Dax. The visitors took control of the game with a try from skipper John Muldoon that was converted by Ian Keatley - who ended the game with a personal tally of 15 points. Dax responded with two tries within ten minutes with fullback Laurent Diaz grabbing their first and winger Bruno Hiriart dotting down soon after with Maxime Petitjean adding the extras. Keatley reduced the arrears after the break with a penalty and they regained the lead when Jonny O'Connor crossed a minute later which Keatley converted. Two more successful penalties from the Connacht fly-half edged them further ahead. Despite a yellow card for Muldoon in the closing stages they cemented their lead with a try from replacement Danny Riordan with Keatley sealing the win with a last minute conversion.
