London Irish have recruited Ospreys back-row Tom Smith on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old has captained Wales at Under-21 level and has made 60 appearances for the Welsh region. With RaboDirect PRO12 and Heineken Cup experience to his name, the Exiles will hope he will bring physicality to their back-row.

Exiles head coach Toby Booth was delighted to have secured his man saying: "Tom's ability to play at both blindside flanker and number 8 means he will add further to our back row options. He is a top class defender that possesses very good set piece attributes."

And Smith is looking forward to testing himself in the Aviva Premiership. Smith said:"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Ospreys but feel it is time to move on and I am keen to do this at London Irish.

"There are a few Welsh lads in the current London Irish squad who have gone on to be extremely successful in recent seasons and I hope to follow suit when I join this summer."
