Stade Francais ensured there would be no revenge for Clermont Auvergne as the Top 14 champions claimed victory over last season's runners-up on Sunday.

The Paris side edged out Clermont in last season's final with a 12-6 victory at the Stade de France, and their dominance continued this weekend with a 14-9 win at Stade Jean-Bouin.

Stade flanker Jono Ross scored the only try of the match, touching down after just 12 minutes to give his side an early lead.

Jules Plisson added three penalties for the defending champions, while Clermont were forced to wait until the second-half to trouble the scoreboard. Brock James kicked a brace of penalties before Camille Lopez added one more at the death.

Sunday's other action saw a far more emphatic victory for Castres as they thrashed heavyweights Racing 34-8 at Stade Pierre-Antoine.

Castres touched down for five tries, with Alexandre Bias, David Smith, and Remy Grosso scoring one apiece, and Alex Tulou claiming a brace. Racing's points came from a Louis Dupichot try and a solitary Johan Goosen penalty.
