Leicester and England hooker Tom Youngs has been given a one-week ban after being found guilty of striking.

Youngs, who was not included in new England head coach Eddie Jones' squad for the RBS 6 Nations, was shown a yellow card for punching Stade Francais prop Rabah Slimani during the Tigers's 36-21 defeat by Stade Francais during Sunday's European Champions Cup match.

He was subsequently cited by commissioner Peter Ferguson and had his case heard by an independent disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.

Youngs, who admitted committing an act of foul play, will miss his club's Premiership match at Gloucester on Saturday.

The independent judicial officer Roger Morris, of Wales, said that Youngs' actions warranted a red card but ruled that the offence was at the low end of sanctions and selected two weeks as the appropriate entry point.

He then reduced the sanction by one week due to the player's clean disciplinary record, expression of remorse, good character and good conduct during the hearing.

The hearing also heard evidence from Leicester chief executive Simon Cohen and the EPCR disciplinary officer Liam McTiernan.

Youngs was one of four players to be cited after the final round of European group fixtures.

Scarlets forward Maselino Paulino was suspended for three weeks for striking Northampton's England second rower Courtney Lawes during his side's 22-10 defeat.

Paulino, who received a yellow card, was cited by match commissioner Yves Thieffine and admitted the charge.

Judicial officer Jeremy Summers, of England, reduced the sanction from five weeks due to the player's guilty plea, expression of remorse and good conduct at the hearing.
