New Ospreys signing Jamie Nutbrown could be sidelined for two months after suffering a foot injury.

Former Waikato and New Zealand A scrum-half Nutbrown has made just two appearances for the Welsh region since linking up with them earlier this month. But he sustained an injury to the midtarsal joint of his left foot during Ospreys' 21-18 Magners League victory over Glasgow last Friday night.

Ospreys physiotherapist Chris Towers said: ''Jamie has suffered an injury to the midtarsal joint of his left foot, damaging ligaments as well as sustaining a compression facture to one of the small tarsal bones of his foot.

''The injury occurred in a tackle where his left foot was trapped, and as he fell the force was therefore transmitted through his fore foot, resulting in the injury.

''He has been reviewed by a specialist, who unfortunately confirmed that Jamie will need to spend the next four weeks in plaster, followed by a period of strengthening and rehabilitation. All in all, we could be looking at an eight-week lay-off.''

It is a blow for the Ospreys, whose Wales international scrum-half Mike Phillips is recovering from a serious knee injury, while ex-All Blacks number nine Justin Marshall left to join Montpellier during the summer.
