Proud Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson looked back on his side's historic first cross-channel Heineken Cup success, and declared: "Courage was the key."

In the wake of a shaky start to the season, both in Europe and in the Magners League, Robinson could not disguise his joy at the 13-6 victory over Castres in France tonight. Mark Robertson scored the only try while Chris Paterson kicked the other eight points after Cammy McIntyre had put Castres 6-0 in front.

Robinson said: 2There were two main aspects to this performance. Firstly, to come to France and play in such an exciting manner in the first half was tremendous. Then we showed fantastic courage to defend the way we did when they came back at us in the second half."

While hailing the all-round attributes of his squad, Robinson could not resist the temptation to single out the game's only try-scorer for special praise. He continued: "Mark won the match for us in two ways. His try was obviously crucial, but he also saved us with his challenge, which prevented Castres from scoring in the corner.

"Mark is a promising player, however, he has got to keep his feet on the ground."

In terms of Edinburgh's status in the tournament, a relieved Robinson added: "We're still in it!"
