Cardiff Blues wing Tom James has been banned for two weeks for the headbutt on Gloucester hooker Olivier Azam that earned him a red card during last weekend's Heineken Cup tie at Kingsholm. James' Blues team-mates dug in for a famous win after he ducked his head into Azam's face, being sent-off despite the elaborate reaction of the Frenchman. An independent disciplinary committee chaired by by Rod McKenzie (Scotland) and comprising Jean-Etienne Bernard (France) and George Spotswood (Ireland), decided that James' action was on the low end of the scale for striking offences. Taking into account any provocation the panel banned James for two weeks, from the date of the match to February 1, 2009. In related news, Dax will be without lock Mickael Bert for three weeks after he was found guilty of striking against London Irish in December. © Scrum.com
