Dusty Hare scored 12 points to overtake Sam Doble's career aggregate record of 3651 as Leicester beat Moseley 26-13. He overcome nerves which saw him miss a penalty and two conversions when within one kick of the landmark. He finished his career with 7337 points, a total which remains a first-class record.

1991
England hooker Brian Moore pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm after repeatedly punching a student in a pub brawl in Nottingham. Moore, who was fined £500 and handed a four-month suspended sentence, was told by the magistrate: "I have to tell you I had in mind an immediate custodial sentence … the level of violence was totally unwarranted."

1974
The former Scotland fly-half Gordon Waddell, resident in South Africa, won the Johannesburg North seat for the Liberal Progressive Party in the South African general election, against all predictions. He was one of seven new Progressive Party MP's who won election to Parliament in 1974, supporting Helen Suzman who had been the sole opposition MP to the National Party for 13 years.

1981
Wales beat the President's World XV 27-21 in an entertaining yet competitive match at Cardiff that brought down the curtain on the WRU's Centenary season. Three late tries helped Wales come back from 13-21 down, the last two from scrum-half Tony Jones.

1998
A day to forget for Ian McCoy of Caerau who had a finger bitten off during the Welsh district match against Ely. To make matters worse, a search of the pitch was unable to find the detached digit. The Ely secretary said: "It's a terrible thought to think it may have been swallowed but it is a possibility."

1994
John Redwood - the Conservative Welsh Secretary who famously looked like a rabbit in headlights when forgetting the words to the principality's anthem - was in hot water again. Replying to a question in the House of Commons he said a Labour suggestions was "about as credible as the Welsh rugby team saying they were teetotal". All hell broke loose with demands for an apology and, worse, that the minister have his free tickets for Wales internationals withdrawn. MPs soon found something else to rage about.

1992
New Zealand wrapped up their Centenary series beating the World XV 26-15 in Auckland to take the rubber by two wins to one.

1992
Bath sealed their League/Cup double season with a 32-12 home win against Saracens in the final Courage League match. Stuart Barnes led the way for Bath, scoring two tries and kicking two penalty goals.
