Samoa's magnificent recent run in the IRB Sevens World Series came to a shock end at Twickenham as Argentina upset the leaders.

The Islanders now face rivals New Zealand in a mouth watering quarter-final tomorrow, having failed to top their pool. Argentina's 14-10 win sets them up with a last eight clash with Wales who finished behind New Zealand in Pool B.

The Welsh earned their qualification after bouncing back from an early heavy defeat to New Zealand, by beating Kenya. The Kenyans held New Zealand to a draw in the last game, but it wasn't enough to preserve their status in the cup competition.

Australia showed some sensational form on Day 1 and finished the afternoon as the only unbeaten team and ended with a 38-5 win over rivals and hosts England. With key man Ben Gollings struggling with a hamstring injury, the holders reached the quarters on the back of wins over Scotland and Russia and will face 2009 champions South Africa.

They topped their pool on points difference after a 21-all draw with Fiji and wins over France and Canada. The Fijians will take on Australia in another quarter-final to whet the appetite.

The Bowl will see Italy face Portugal after they beat the United States, who had earlier shocked Argentina. Winless France will face Scotland, while Canada play Russia and Kenya face the USA.
