Former Wales wing Dafydd James is weighing up a move to rugby league, but admits that he would prefer to remain in the 15-man game.

The 34-year-old, who won three Test caps for the British & Irish Lions against Australia in 2001, was released by Cardiff Blues at the end of last season following an unsuccessful loan spell at Premiership strugglers Sale Sharks.

James believes that he can still cut it at the top end of the game, with a move to the Celtic Crusaders, where former Wales team-mate Gareth Thomas now plays, a possibility.

"I'm as fit as ever, highly motivated and looking to continue playing top flight professional rugby for another one or two seasons," he said. "I'm looking at all possibilities, including a switch to league with the Crusaders, although my main ambition at the moment would be to stay in union.

"It was a frustrating and disappointing time last season - at Cardiff my opportunities were limited and when I moved to Sale we were in a relegation battle. But I've grown from last season and I am probably a better professional for it."
